A city in the western part of East Java, situated halfway between Surabaya and Yogyakarta, it is an agricultural center surrounded by mountains, most notably Mount Wilis to the east and Mount Lawu to the west. A number of stunning waterfalls are found nearby, while families can enjoy rafting and other nature activities at the Sekar Arum recreational park. A trip to Madiun would be incomplete without tasting the local version of Pecel, a traditional Javanese salad with peanut sauce.
